Hiya! Thursday (today) is the day I go to my GT class at school and during today's lessons I learned how to make a handmade kazoo and it was so easy I decided to teach you how to make your own!
The supplies are mostly easy to find, the only thing you might not have around the house is the first one, so I linked to a couple options on Amazon for each item. A lot of these things may be found around the house, and if you're a kid, ask your parents before you go shopping!
Here's what you need:
- Two (2) jumbo craft sticks (basically tongue depressors) (Plain) (Colored)
- Two (2) skinny rubber bands (This assorted pack has wide & skinny ones)
- One (1) slightly wider rubber band - You can likely find all sizes of rubber bands at home, the ones in the first photo were just in a junk drawer, left over from vegetables from the grocery store!)
- Two (2) 1" pieces cut from a straw. I used some plastic straws we had around the house, you can use biodegradable plastic or paper straws if that's what you have.
Start by placing the wide rubber band long ways on one craft stick/tongue depressor and slip one piece of straw in between the stick and the rubber band about an inch from the edge. Place the other stick over the straw piece and line it up with the first stick.
Use one of the skinny rubber bands wrapped around near the straw, on the side closest to the end of the sticks, to keep it all together. Put the last piece of straw over the inside rubber band but under the top stick about an inch from the opposite edge of the first straw, as shown below.
Then use the last skinny rubber band the secure the last pieces into place in the same way as the first one.
And that's it! You're ready to play your kazoo by blowing gently between the two sticks. The vibration from blowing into the narrow spaces creates a fun sound! Now that you are done you can start a band! I'm exited to hear how yours works out, please comment below if you make your own and if you post about it on Instagram make sure to tag me, @seriouslyscarletren. (Oh! And follow my Instagram page!)
